The Purple-Necked, Black-Bearded Blatch
Blast from my past.
I found this a few days ago in the web. It’s a little puppet play with patterns from a 1969 issue of “Women’s Day” magazine. Now, I don’t read “Women’s Day”, but I had this article for many years (I actually might still have it deep in a box somewhere). My Mom was always looking for arts and crafts for us kids to do when I was growing up. I think she gave it to me. She’s a fine art watercolorist and former art teacher, so we always had a fully stocked studio for creating. I’ve always been a Muppet fan. I would have paid them to work on the Muppet show or the movies. (I don’t follow them so much now that they are Disney. I guess they were lost to me when Jim Henson died.) I built the “Blatch” puppet and had him for years. I even used him in skits when I was a counselor at UNH’s Freshman Camp. My Blatch has been gone for many years now, and my kids are too old for puppet building, but maybe I’ll build another one. . . If my wife doesn’t catch me.
